Welcome from the Vicar

A very warm welcome to the website of the Parish of South Beddington and Roundshaw.

Our regular Sunday services are Sung Mass at 9 am (St Paul’s) and 10 am (St Michael’s). During the week, there is a Said Mass (Communion) at 10.30 am on Thursdays (St Paul’s) and Saturdays (St Michael’s) and there are services to mark the Feast days in the Church’s calendar, such as Corpus Christi, Ascension etc. The Daily Offices (Morning and Evening Prayer) are said at St Michael’s Church most weekdays. St Michael’s is an Anglican Church within the Catholic tradition of the Church of England, sometimes referred to as “Anglo Catholic” or “High Church” tradition. The services at St Paul’s Church are less formal than at St Michael’s, but still within the modern Catholic tradition.

Within both of the parish churches, we aim to be inclusive, welcoming everyone, whatever their age, background, sexuality or relationship status and regardless of how much or how little faith they may have. We see faith as a journey we take together, as we aim to grow closer to God and to one another, and to support each other in times of difficulty. Some of our members have been committed Christians for many years, others are taking their first tentative steps towards faith.

We work hard to ensure that the parish is a place where people can grow spiritually, put our faith into action and use our gifts of time and talents as disciples of Christ. There are always opportunities to get involved, whether by playing a part in our services e.g. reading the lesson or as a member of the serving team or in a whole range of other practical and pastoral ways. Perhaps you have a talent for singing? Our choir are always on the look-out for new members, of any age. There are 3 choirs to choose from, a children’s choir, youth choir or the adult choir. Bible Study, Lent Courses and other Christian teaching sessions are held on Monday evenings throughout the year. Past teaching sessions have included Christian Ethics, prayer, the sacraments, study of the 3 Abrahamic faiths and many other topics. We also offer a Confirmation course for those who wish to be confirmed, and a Communion before Confirmation course for children wishing to take communion before they are confirmed.

If you visit us at one of the churches, please make yourself known to a member of the clergy or to one of the Churchwardens. We look forward to getting to know you.

With our prayers and best wishes.

Mother Angela Gbebikan
