Zimbabwe Link

Zimbabwe Link

As part of the Croydon Episcopal Area and Central Zimbabwe Diocese partnership, our parish has a long-standing link with St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Mbizo, Kwekwe.

Kwekwe is a city in Central Zimbabwe with a population of about 116,000. The township of Mbizo is a high-density suburb located east of the city centre.

St Michaels Church, Mbizo, is a mission parish with a thriving congregation of 500 members and an active Mother’s Union, Men’s Fellowship Guild and Youth Committee. With the ongoing economic difficulties in Zimbabwe, missional activities are very important and these include orphan support, the distribution of food and clothes, and outreach to the sick and elderly in the wider community. To better facilitate their work, they are in the process of building a church hall, although finding funds is difficult in the harsh economic environment they are operating in.

Our link with St. Michaels, Mbizo, is a treasured opportunity for both parishes to get to know each other and understand what life is like for us in each country. Through mutual prayer, encouragement and support, we grow together in faith - each in our different situations, but walking as one.

A prayer for the People of Zimbabwe:

We pray for the suffering people of Zimbabwe, forced to live amid deterioration, disease and despair.

‘The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.’ Deut. 33.27

Loving God,
just and gentle ruler,
hold in your care our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe
at this time of political uncertainty,
at this time of national crisis.
Bring light out of the darkness,
hope out of the fear
and your peace which leads to life
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
